Profile pipe, as already mentioned, is not suitable for water and gas wires, because it has very different useful properties. To determine them, let's look at what steel profile pipes are:
-oval
- square
- rectangular.
What are they good for?
Oval pipe is often used in the decorative design of buildings, entrances and residential premises (especially in the construction of all sorts of fences and railings), because as a decorative element, it is very convenient and looks spectacular.
But this is not its only advantage. The fact is that the main property of round pipes (minimum area with maximum volume) is not always useful: when it comes to cooling coils, the removal area for heat should be just more. Therefore, they are oval in cross-section profile pipes will be a more suitable option.
Another thing is that this option will be expensive – it will be possible to make coils only from seamless (others are not suitable) profile pipes and in factory conditions.
A square pipe will differ favorably from a round one where the structure will have to deal with transverse loads. Round pipes are well kept, the internal pressure, but relatively easy to bend. Therefore, you can't use them as a carrier element. But square pipes with four stiffening ribs are very possible. The cross-section strength of a square profile pipe will be the same as that of a steel rod of the same cross-section; but the weight and consumption of the metal in this case will be much less.
A rectangular pipe has the same properties as a square one, but with one caveat: it is convenient to use it where the exact load vector is known. For example – if you are building a balcony with pillars, then you should use a rectangular pipe for the bridge between them, and put it on the narrow side. At the same time, it is considered that the profile rectangular (or square) seamless pipe is able to withstand 10-15% more loads than made of strips.
